African American Student Center

Welcome

Welcome

The African American Student Center has come to signify a place of Voice, Cultural Enrichment, Resource, Support, Scholarship, Fellowship, Career Development, and Partnership. We are committed to an action-oriented approach to providing culturally relevant and efficient programs and services designed to foster successful self enhancement, community, transition, retention, persistence, achievement, and graduation of scholars with particular attention given to the Global African Diaspora affecting Culture, Communication, Academia, and Campus life.

This years Vision for the African American is … Establishing W.H.O.L.E.N.E.S.S. and Practicing Excellence. Wholeness is defined as “an unwounded or unbroken completeness or totality,” (www.thefreedictionary.com), and drives the goal of laying the foundation for a complete community among African American students, faculty and alumni connected to WSU. Specifically, for the African American Student Center, W.H.O.L.E.N.E.S.S. represents the tenets of:

Welcoming Environment
Honoring Culture
Opportunity
Love
Educational Achievement
Need Based
Excellence
Supportive
Success Oriented

Please keep an eye out for Programming, Coordination and Partnership highlights this year through the African American Student Center including our (a) Guest Speaker Spotlight on various Faculty, Staff and Community Members, (b) Academic, Tutorial & Resource Hours, (c) Mentor Program events (d) Embracing the African Diaspora Series, (e) Black History Month Calendar, (f) African American Heritage Graduation Ceremony, and, of course, (g) African American Student Center Organization Events.
